String Inverter Replacement

BY DARREN LEWIS | 8-2-23

The key to O&M is not only the need to maintain the asset but also react when an issue arises. One of the key failings within the industry is the lack of corrective fixes being taken care of in house.

Below is the basic scope required to be carried out when replacing a damaged 1500v String Inverter

Key to every corrective intervention is reporting, something we very much pride ourselves on, as the saying goes, ‘you are only as good as you last job’. Clear concise pictures detailing every point within the scope is the key to a transparent, communicative and honest approach these are the three values in which we live by these are the core strengths for which our business is based on.

  1. Provide task specific RAMS – Identify the risks and ensure the measures are in place to reduce them.

  2. Carry out a visual inspection prior to works commencing, in doing so this will ensure all potential hazards have been picked up, meaning a Dynamic RA has been completed.

  3. Safe Isolation – as per EAWR 1989.

  4. Remove defective inverter including data cables, DC strings and AC cable.

  5. Put the defective inverter into the replacement inverters packaging to allow it to be collected.

  6. Fit new inverter to manufactures instructions, including data cables, dc strings and ac cable.

  7. Remove labels from old inverter and fit to replacement.

  8. Complete a AC minor works certificate.

  9. Complete a PV Array Test Report.

  10. Set the inverter settings.

  11. Photos of the New Inverter showing any damage (if any) when it is un-boxed before Installation of the Inverter (this will cover all parties for any Damage Warranty claims).

  12. Photos of the finished installation.

  13. Ensure the new inverter and the others are communicating with SCADA system on completion.

All the above tasks are well within our O&M capabilities, this may well not be a PPM task, however it is basic corrective works which with the right qualifications/training we aim to do these works in house, minimising the cost, down time and generally ensuring the very best service for our clients.
